Judge Jack Lu (ret.) is an independent mediator and civil and criminal litigation consultant (to attorneys only) and was a Massachusetts Superior Court judge for 16 years and a md传媒国产剧 Municipal Court judge for 5 years. From 2014 to 2018 he chaired the Massachusetts Sentencing Commission in promulgating the first and only overhaul of the Massachusetts Sentencing Guidelines in 21 years. Judge Lu received a 2013 Trial Court Excellence Award, along with a large team of fellow Trial Court employees, for attempts to improve sentencing.
Jack is a frequent legal critic, whose views have been widely published in Massachusetts professional media and is an informal legal advisor to professional journalists including the law and courts beat, investigative and enterprise journalists, and media entities. 听He defends front-line trial judges because (1) sitting trial judges may not respond, and (2) no one consistently voices an informed defense of front-line trial judges who are people that are dedicated to the public interest. His academic interests include sentencing and criminal justice and the role of the trial judge and of the judiciary generally in a free society.听
He has taught since 2003, at both md传媒国产剧 College Law School, and the Woods College of Advancing Studies at md传媒国产剧 College, md传媒国产剧 University School of Law, Bunker Hill Community College including to dual enrollment Chelsea High School students, New England Law, md传媒国产剧, the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada, and the University of Massachusetts Lowell, School of Criminology and Justice Studies, where, during the Pandemic, he received a 2021 Haskell Distinguished Teaching Award, based 100% on student nominations.
Jack graduated from md传媒国产剧 University School of Law in 1984, and the Johns Hopkins University, and has a shelter dog named Keko from Texas.
