Biography
I am fascinated by the great systems of the classical metaphysical tradition and with the living question concerning this tradition's curtailment and overthrow. My research is oriented around a cluster of questions and figures relating to the once-oft-announced "end of metaphysics." Mainly, I am preoccupied with isolating and describing in detail the fatal problems said to block any attempt at metaphysics' rejuvenation or reconstruction. I locate my own thinking within the grand tradition of speculative metaphysics as this has stretched from Plato, through Hegel, and on into our present. Some recent exemplifications of this tradition I take especially seriously include the genealogical line running through process philosophy (Whitehead, Ruyer, Simondon, Deleuze), as well as the series of systematic metaphysical thinkers populating recent Catholic philosophy (Rosmini, Blondel, Przywara, Ulrich, Lonergan, Zubiri, Desmond, Blanchette, and Puntel).
